Copper and Steel Price Increase

Big Commodity Price Increase

Since January 2020 the price of steel Hot Rolled Coil has escalated almost 80%.

Copper has increased from $2.10 a pound in March 2020 to $3.67 at the start of 2021, a 75% increase. Tariffs, quotas, mining labor disputes, COVID related mine closures and China stockpiling the minerals have all tightened supply. The market is reacting to news on the horizon; China’s economic recovery, investments in green energy and massive infrastructure spending as a top priority of the Biden administration are all ingredients in a global demand trajectory for both commodities.
